Day 1 of the 2025 Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

Monster Island (2024)

Well, I am off to a rough start in this spooky season’s movie marathon. Selected only for the short running time of eighty-three minutes (I was tired!), 2024’s Monster Island was abysmal. The dialogue, what little there was since the two main characters spoke different languages, was cringe-worthy. But it was nothing compared to possibly the worst cinematography I’ve ever seen. Constantly shifting cameras and cutting in and out of scene made the movie both headache-inducing and impossible to see the action taking place.

The only thing that could have saved this one was a great monster…but that didn’t happen. Try to imagine the 1954 Creature from the Black Lagoon having a love child with a Sleestak, and you’ve got Monster Island’s villain.

I wish I could think off one nice thing to say about this film, but I can’t. With all the great books out there waiting for someone to make a movie out of, I’ll never understand how something like this gets the green light.

I’ve set the bar low enough to think the next thirty movie will be better, but one never knows! I’ll probably have to cleanse my palette tomorrow night with a classic before moving on to movies I haven’t seen. This one is an F. Holding my breath for eighty-three minutes would have been more enjoyable.
