Day 1 of the 2026 Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

I've been dying to see this movie all summer but decided to wait for October to watch it. After the first few minutes of shaky-cam, I was glued to my seat for the next hour-and-a-half. The acting was great, the atmosphere went from unsettling to terrifying at times, and the backstory was well-paced and fed to us in perfect bite-sized scenes. All they needed to do was stick the landing...
Nope.
Because they didn't really have an ending. Would I have liked it if the entire thing was a figment of Mary's young imagination as she lived under the thumb of a mentally ill parent? Probably not. Would I have liked it if was all a concussion-dream in Clark's mind because he hit his head when his fake pegleg broke? Definitely not. But at least they would have been actually endings.
All this needed to cement the sequel (that we all know is coming) is "The End" followed by a question mark. So, yeah, I'm not a fan of the ambiguous ending. Based on the success and popularity of the film, I'm expecting to get skewered in the comments. But to quote Vern Tessio, "Yeah, it's a great story, Gordie. I just didn't like the ending."
