Day 2 of the 2025 Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

***Includes possible spoilers***

Full disclosure: I'm not a huge fan of the werewolf genre. This movie reminded me why. Every take on the werewolf lore makes up its own rules. In this film, they spin it as more of a degenerative rabies-like disease than a curse...which is really just a metaphor for the abusive traits passed down to Blake from his father. The big problem I had with this one is they never explain HOW Blake is infected.

That issues aside, a lengthy sequence in the movie shows Blake trying to fortify the front door against the creature. But it's his father's house and every other door and window is barred...why wouldn't the front door already be more secure?

The real reason I decided to take a chance on this one is because I think Julia Garner is a great actress, but even she couldn't salvage the film. There are some well done parallels between Blake and his father, and Charlotte and Ginger. The scene in the deer blind and ultimately them looking at he beautiful view of the valley.

There are lots of other inconsistencies and probable plot holes, but I think I've said enough. I think this is worth a watch, particularly for fans of the werewolf genre, but for me it was just okay. I'm giving it a C and really need to step it up tomorrow!
