Halloween Horror Movie Marathon: Bonus Content!

ree

I remember not thinking this was a very solid sequel, but I wanted to give it another shot. Unfortunately, I stand by my original assessment.

One thing I like about it is that it picks up immediately where the original left off. Everything after that is a disappointment. The biggest flaw is the lack of engagement in Laurie Strode's character. She spends half the movie in bed, sedated, her only line is "Don't put me to sleep." She never has the same impact she did in the first movie.

A close second is turning Dr. Loomis into a raving lunatic. Yes, he was obsessed with Michael in the first movie, but he was—for the most part—rational. His character was hard to watch in the second movie.

The "twist" they added in making Laurie turn out to be Michael's sister didn't work for me, it seemed pretty contrived. And killing off Ben Tramer seemed like an unnecessary detail. By the way, who is this mysterious Jimmy who flirts with Laurie, touching her while she's unconscious, and promising to protect her?

The who movie felt rushed and thrown together, despite the three year gap from the original.
