I don't know how I missed this one for eight years, being such a fan of Mike Flanagan. This cements my belief that the man is a genius and makes me more eager to see what he does with King's wonderful The Life of Chuck.
Before I Wake is grief horror, featuring a couple dealing with the accidental death of their son. As part of their attempt to heal, they decide to foster a young boy. They quickly realize there is more to Cody than meets the eye, as magical things begin to happen. But there is a dark side to Cody's gift.
The acting in this is wonderful, the emotion raw and gritty. As always, Flanagan pulls it off deftly, bringing a satisfying conclusion where one seems impossible. This is an A+ and I highly recommend it. Streaming on Netflix.
