Day 20 of the 2025 Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

ree

Probably a very unpopular opinion, but this really wasn't very good. I know it's meant to be campy and in the "horror-comedy" genre, but it still looks like a bad made-for-TV movie that had swears and a little nudity. The acting was terrible. Even if the intent was to overact it just didn't work for me.

The first segment was "Old Chief Wood'nhead" which I don't think was ever a King short story. Listen, when your male lead in the opening segment is George Kennedy, it's not a good sign. Still, it may be the best of the three stories.

The second piece was an adaptation of King's "The Raft" which happens to be a favorite of mine. In my memory from seeing it when it first came out, this adaptation was pretty good. I should have let the memory live on. The acting and dialog are amateurish, the special effects terrible (sorry Tom Savini, but the oil slick looked like floating toilet paper), and most of the depth of the story were pulled, leaving just a bunch of kids getting eaten on a raft.

The third installment was "The Hitchhiker" and solidly the worst of the three. It was also not based on a King story, though King does make a cameo. The majority of the story is a woman driving talking to herself while occasionally menaced by the hitchhiker she ran over who inexplicably keeps yelling "Thanks for the ride, lady."

So, another disappointment and I'm running out of days in October. Time to step it up and watch Sinners.
