Day 6 of the 2025 Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

ree

Last night's selection was the second movie in The Conjuring universe, Annabelle. The film is based on one of the most famous cases Ed and Lorraine Warren handled, even though their characters don't appear in the film. For Warren junkies like myself, the glaring change they made for the movie is the doll itself. The real Annabelle is just a Raggedy Ann doll, not the creepy nightmare fuel they found for the movie.

One thing that bothered me was someone calling 911 (from a rotary phone) during the opening scene. Santa Monica didn't have 911 service until the 70s. Other than that, the movie was okay and true to the late sixties setting. Parts of it had a Rosemary's Baby feel but as far as scary goes...I don't know. I watched Trilogy of Terror when I was eleven years old, featuring this doll...

So Annabelle didn't really make me lose any sleep. There were a lot of unexplained occurrences that didn't make sense in the movie's explanation of the demon that left this one falling short for me. I'm on the fence about continuing on with Conjuring 2 or taking a break with something else. Stay tuned!
